Landscapes Braga is probably one of the most beautiful of all Portugal, but if it was not worth visiting for the wonder that is in its suburbs, one of those stunningly beautiful places that travelers remember much after having visited it: the Bom Jesus do Monte .
is a shrine located atop a hill from which you have superb views of Braga, but the best is the beautiful baroque staircase by which we climb up to the square where is the church itself, a marvel of many places with statues and fountains of old granite and wet, where every landing is a pleasant surprise.
addition, at various altitudes we find a small cave within which some figures depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ, not particularly beautiful but which give a tone and a more local flavor and close the set.
The church itself is not particularly monumental and beautiful, it is beautiful on the outside but inside too. The truth is that after the physical work and the artistic delicacy of the ladder perhaps you expect something a little more flashy, but is that not easy living up to the pre-show steep .
Another ingredient of the visit is an elevator designed to prevent the great staircase, whose use would be unforgivable if not for little train is a typical rack that also has its own charm. He was also the first of its kind to be launched throughout the Iberian peninsula back in 1882.
important recommendation: go in the afternoon, with sunlight gilding the stairway, is an experience.
And, Braga
As if this were not enough, at the foot of Bon Jesus is Braga, with its beautifully preserved old town and its splendid façade of baroque churches, palaces, narrow streets and secluded squares.
And is that the old part of town is one of the best preserved towns Portugal and perhaps one of the most friendly to tourists, pedestrian or very low level of traffic which is a pleasure to walk, good shops, cozy cafes and restaurants ...
Finally, double check you can not miss if they are to the north of Portugal. By the way, do not forget to go to the northern neighbor, is a splendid place for a holiday. PD
.: One last tip: If you will take advantage of Braga in the summer for dinner at one of the cafés in Central Avenue, which is actually a garden square where the town hall and an arcade where will be in heaven watching the impressive Baroque facade of the Basilica two congregations.
